I was on the radio a few minutes ago. Did you hear me? It was a book radio station. Reading with Robin. 920 WHJJ. We were talking about the Judy Blume book. It was supposed to be a light hearted, funny show but I think I came across as a person with severe emotional problems due to middle school.
Coincidentally, the station airs from Providence, Rhode Island, which is where I’ll be tomorrow. We’re taking Kim to BROWN UNIVERSITY for a six week summer theatre program.
It’s quite possible that I’ve already told you this. I usually try to jam it into the conversation at least ten or twelve times a day.
For example someone will say something like,”Did you hear that the President is going to be in Rhode Island on Thursday.” And I’ll say, “OH really? Kim is going to be there on Sunday. At BROWN.”
Or someone might say, “The weather has been absolutely spectacular lately; hasn’t it?” And I”ll say, “The weather is very similar in Rhode Island, so I hear. At BROWN. Where Kim is going to be.”
Sometimes it slips in quite nicely. Like when someone actually asks me what Kim is doing this summer. Then I just say, “What? I’m sorry, I’m not sure I heard you correctly. Did you just ask me what Kim is doing this summer? BROWN. She’s going to Brown.”
I could say that word fifty times a day and never get bored of hearing it. That’s how proud I am.
BROWN.
I was never big on bragging until I had kids, but now I highly recommend it! It’s a lot like scratching your poison ivy. You know you shouldn’t do it. You even have plenty of time to consider not doing it.
But then you do.
BROWN.
I just finished the Blume book. Your essay was one of my favorites!
